Lesson #6: Questions for Every Move

There are not shortage of systems of thought that can be applied before each chess move. But we settled on three basic questions to ask yourself:

  1. What is my opponent doing?
  2. Are there any hanging pieces?
  3. Are there any checks?
In this week's worksheet, try to ask yourself these three questions to determine whether it's best to attack or defend. There are two versions of each position (6 positions, 12 puzzles total). In one version, there is material that can be safely won. In the other, it's too dangerous to capture:
