Planning Meeting

Today I met with Mrs. Lori Kirk and Mrs. Kristine Stone to exchange ideas about the club for 2016.

Unlike last year, we only have one day to meet: Thursday from 2:40-3:40. There will still be two classes, one beginner and one advanced, but instead of being divided by separate meeting times, they'll be divided by separate classrooms.

We're hoping for our expert-level coach Milos Bajsanksi to be available during this time slot for the advanced and I've volunteered 8 weeks for the beginners. Unlike last year, beginners will meet every week because otherwise I fear the time in between classes will kind of break the continuity between lessons needed to grasp the game.

We hope to get information out on the morning announcements and here's a mock-up of a flyer that will hopefully go out August 30th at open house:

Indialantic's dismal tournament attendance puts us at a disadvantage for team trophies. Our tournament players are spread out in age to the extent that we only have one or two players in each section. If we're to grow the team, it must be done from the bottom up, recruiting young players who will hopefully catch on and strengthen over the next few years.

How can we address the wide range of experience levels of the students? Age wise, we include every determined student, from kindergarten through 6th. Competing players immediately go to the expert coach. That leaves kids who have never played to kids who can complete a game but make a lot of beginner mistakes. The schedule in the flyer offers this flexibility: students may start attending the course at a point that matches their current level of understanding.

Change of topic! Last season there was one standout tournament where we had great attendance, and it was when Indialantic hosted:

That's our happy team with the 2015-2016 club sponsor Mr. Eric Cooper.

One more thing I have to say for legal reasons: this site is privately owned by a parent volunteer and is not officially affiliated with Indialantic Elementary or Brevard schools.
